Margarita Island

(Pearl of the Caribbean)

Margarita Island & Coche Island

Margarita Island was once described as the Pearl of the Caribbean due to its previous pearl trade.

Wake early in the morning and take a brisk walk along the white sands stopping briefly to enjoy the surf and the warm waters of the Caribbean. Stop in one of the many café’s along the seafront for a coffee and fresh juice and the local delicacy of the day for breakfast.

Hire a car and spend the day exploring the many beaches of Margarita and take a trip to the National Park of Laguna La Restinga where you can rent a kayak and paddle through the “manglares” mangroves that teem with wildlife. Close by explore the Peninsula de Macanao with its breathtaking views of the sea and little hamlets.

Feel the Spanish influence in the coastal towns and small villages with its colonial castles and churches and go searching for the pearls of the Caribbean to take back home as a souvenir.

Head towards El Yaque for a different kind of experience with some of the best kite surfing and wind surfing around….or simply enjoy a cocktail or two on the cosmopolitan beach waiting for another spectacular sunset.

Take a ferry from El Yaque to La Coche across the bay and enjoy the long beaches and posadas with their beautiful swimming pools and ocean frontage, maybe even enjoy a snorkelling trip arranged by the locals or rent a sailboat or dinghy. Another beautiful sunset awaits…..
